Good bye Vegas, it’s been fun!

17 Jun

What a great week! We were so busy I barely had time to write. Of course now that we are siting on a runway with an hour before take-off, I can actually take a minute to write about our trip.

We saw four shows – Peepshow, LOVE, Country Superstars and Viva Elvis. Elvis was by far my favorite – if you even kind if like his music, you can’t miss it! The montages brought tears to my eyes and the closing act of Suspicious Minds was simply amazing. Also on my list is Jubilee (hello Vegas showgirls!), Le Reve and maybe the Playboy Comedy Show.

Golden Nugget was my favorite casino this time- don’t miss the tomato soup and bruschetta at Grotto- delicious! We managed to visit a lot of casinos this time but I still want to see Palace Station, Mandalay Bay, the Palms and Riveria. I was sad to see Sahara was closed for good because I am such a fan of old Vegas (and dives!).

Managed to see the lions napping and cuddling at the MGM lion habitat and the Mob Experience at the Tropicana was very cool. The ‘cast’ was super into it and made it a neat way to learn a lot about mob history in Vegas.

The only buffet we hit was Monte Carlo because it was so close to the Aria theater for the Elvis cirque show. We used Half Tix for each show and got great deals. They have so many shows and restaurants to choose from that you’d be silly not to use it. Great seats at every show too!

I spent a wonderfully luxurious afternoon at the Spa at SouthPoint. Pedicure and massage were both relaxing and worth it. The spa had a great steam room, soaking tub, hot tub and sauna that I made full use of – would go back in a heartbeat. I picked up sone great products – Skinceuticals and some hair products.

We stayed at Grand View which is a few minutes off the strip but I loved the extra space and washer/dryer in the room. We even managed to hit the gym a few times (have to exercise to keep up with our In and Out burgers!).

I love Vegas and can’t wait to come back! Next time…Golden Nugget or MGM.

Next stop: an overnight in Boston.

Vegas Vacation: Hoover Dam

14 Jun

Hoover Dam was pretty cool! We decided to take the generator tour which was $11 each. They also have just the visitor center or the full dam tour ($30 but next one was two hours away.)

We took the elevators down like 500 feet down and then it broke so we were stuck down there. The tour guides were really nice and we got to see a few other off tour areas as we took various elevators out of the dam. It’s really breathtaking and if you have a few days you should go see it – amazing to think of the thousands of men and 5 years it took to build.

Lunch, pool and the strip!

Las Vegas Day 4

14 Jun

Settled in enough to actually blog today. Day 1 we landed and went straight to In and Out Burger – a Vegas staple for an East Coaster. Followed by a quick trip downtown for a visit to the Golden Nugget. I adore old school divey casinos and the Nugget definitely fulfills that desire. A visit to their poolside tables may be in order.

Had dinner at The Venetian – the cheeseburger at The Grand Lux is another favorite (is there a cheeseburger theme this trip?). Only played a few slots…the boyfriend was tired.

Day 2 was all about The Rio, Mirage and Casino Royale. We saw LOVE and it was amazing…Jubilee, Le Reve and Peepshow are on my list of other shows so hopefully I can fit in at least one more. $5 blackjack at Casino Royale till 4:30a..the boyfriend won which is always good. :) I could spend hours at the casinos!

Day 3 we slept in, shopped, more In and Out and then bowled at SouthPoint which is off the strip.
Hit my personal best of 133 in game 1 and went down from there. Good times with old friends who happened to be in town.

Day 4 we were up for breakfast by 8a which is a major Vegas accomplishment. Heading out to the Hoover Dam…we rented a car this trip which has been nice. Traffic hasn’t been horrible and it’s easy to get around.

Still on my list – MGM, Mandalay Bay and definitely more Casino Royale. BF wants to see the mob museum at The Trop too.

This afternoon is all about being poolside in a new bathing suit with my Jackie Collins book…perfect for a Vegas vacation!
